Nominations and applications for 2020 awards will be open in the spring - please consider nominating yourself or a colleague.

 

 

 

 

 

The scholarship for $500 is being awarded by NurseTim to a KLN member pursuing a graduate degree with the intent of teaching.

 

Applicants must have:

  • Current membership in KLN and be a participant in the Annual Meeting of the KLN

  • Active, unrestricted Kentucky nursing license

  • Acceptance into an accredited graduate level program leading to a degree in nursing or related field at either the masters or doctoral level

  • Intent to remain in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to teach in an undergraduate or graduate level program of nursing.

JoAnn Maurer Wever Excellence in Nursing Education Awards

 

This Award for Excellence in Nursing Education in the Commonwealth of Kentucky will be presented to two outstanding academic nurse educators yearly during the annual business meeting of the Kentucky League for Nursing. The honor will recognize significant contribution to excellence and innovation in nursing education contributing to the preparation of the nursing workforce in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Kathryn M. Mershon Nursing Faculty Scholarship -
Graduate Education

 

The scholarship for $500 is being awarded in honor of Kathryn M. Mershon, president of Mershon Company, Louisville, Kentucky.  Kathyrn Mershon has served the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the National League for Nursing for many years.   Through her activities and innovative programs, Ms. Mershon has played a major role in enhancing nursing education and professionalism.  This scholarship is awarded annually as a one-time only gift to qualified nurse applicants.

 

Applicants must have:

  • Current membership in KLN and be a participant in the Annual Meeting of the KLN

  • Active, unrestricted Kentucky nursing license

  • Acceptance into an accredited nursing or related program at the masters or doctoral level

  • Intent to remain in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to teach in an undergraduate or graduate level program of nursing.

 

Recipients agree to present their work in a poster or podium presentation during the KLN Annual Conference the following year.

 

Brother Ignatius Perkins Nursing Faculty Scholarship -
Certified Nurse Educator Examination

 

The Brother Ignatius Perkins Nursing Faculty Scholarship is awarded by the Kentucky League for Nursing in honor of Brother Ignatius Perkins who has served the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for many years through his activities enhancing nursing education. This $500 scholarship is to be awarded annually as a one-time-only gift to qualified nurse applicants for the purpose of obtaining or renewing individual Certified Nurse Educator credentialing via the CNE exam. by Kentucky League for Nursing members to assist preparation and examination for the NLN’s Certified Nurse Educator credential.

 

Applicants must have:

  • Current membership in KLN and be a participant in the Annual Meeting of the KLN

  • Earned graduate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program

  • Active, unrestricted Kentucky nursing license

  • Employment as faculty in a KBN approved nursing program

  • Intent to remain in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to teach in an accredited nursing program.

 

Recipients agree to submit evidence of CNE testing or renewal within one year of award. Failure to do so will require return of award.

Helen Watts Lester Carpenter Scholarship - 
Service Learning or Medical Missions Project

 

The scholarship for $500 is being awarded in memory of Helen Watts Lester Carpenter (Emily Piercy, former president of KLN’s mother).  Mrs. Carpenter began nursing at the Nazareth School of Nursing, Saint Joseph Hospital in Kentucky. Upon graduation, she became the state’s first registered nurse anesthetists training under Dr. Warren Sergent at Saint Joseph in Lexington. She worked at St. Joseph and Central Baptist Hospitals in Lexington as a nurse anesthetist. During the 1960’s she participated in missions with a medical group from Saint Joseph providing minor elective surgeries for the Frontier Nursing Service in rural Hyden, KY. This scholarship is awarded annually as a one-time only gift to an instructor or nursing program to offset the cost of a service learning project or medical mission project.

 

Applicants must have:

  • Current membership in KLN and be a participant in the Annual Meeting of the KLN

  • Active, unrestricted Kentucky nursing license

  • Intent to remain in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to teach in an undergraduate or graduate level program of nursing. 

 

Recipients agree to present their work in a poster or podium presentation during the KLN Annual Conference the following year.

 

Kentucky League for Nursing Research Scholarship

 

The scholarship for $500 is being awarded to assist nurse educators conducting research to add to the body of evidence regarding nursing education.

 

Applicants must have:

  • Current membership in KLN and be a participant in the Annual Meeting of the KLN

  • Active, unrestricted Kentucky nursing license

  • A current position as a nurse educator in the Commonwealth of Kentucky teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. 

 

Applicants must prepare a written proposal including:

  • Description of the research project and specifically identify how the money will be used.

  • Documentation of research approved by Institutional Review Board.

 

Recipients agree to present their work in a poster or podium presentation during the KLN Annual Conference the following year.
